Discussion | Continue the Work

Jon: You have just listened to the story, Continue the Work, and now you are listening to the discussion episode.

Bradon: Nehemiah’s enemies invited him to meet, threatened him, and even hired others to give him bad advice. They wanted to stop or delay the work of rebuilding the walls. They were unsuccessful, and Nehemiah and the other workers rebuilt the walls in 52 days. No matter what came Nehemiah’s way, he stayed focused on God’s instructions.

Story Episode
Nehemiah 6

Questions

  1. Jon: Coming back to the question we left earlier. How do we know what God has called us to?
    Bradon:
Allow me to answer this question. I believe there are things that God has called us all to. We can find these written in scripture. There are also unique things specific to an individual during a season of life. Jon and I working at Covenant Bay Bible Camp would be an example. One day we will retire or have a different job, but until that day, God has called us to continue the work at Covenant Bay. We can learn these things through prayer and conversation with others.
  2. Jon: Well said, Bradon. Question two, what are a couple of examples of things Jesus has called his followers to do?
  3. Bradon: What are some of your biggest distractions from following God’s instructions?

Growth Tip

Bradon: I think Nehemiah probably often read the letter and instructions from King Artaxerxes. It was helpful for him to read to remember what his purpose was. Now I don’t know that for sure, but considering how detail-oriented Nehemiah was, I think it is a safe guess.

Jon: That’s a great insight, and I think we can make that our tip. Write down what you know about God’s call on your life – his instructions for you. Then read it regularly. I do this every day. It helps ground me and continue the work God has called me to do. I also update it as I learn more about God’s call on my life.

Bradon: You could even set up a reminder or notification on your phone to read this regularly.

Prayer Requests

At the end of your discussion, go around the group and ask for prayer requests.
