Do You Believe in Jesus?

Key Point

Our key takeaway is a question. Do you believe in Jesus? That is such a great question. If I believe in Jesus, then I want to know him and grow in a relationship with him, and the more I discover about him, the more I want to share what I know about him, like his love with others! We are going to learn just how significant that question is in our story today!

About the Story

Today we start in John 2: 23 – 3:21. We continue to follow Jesus in his adulthood. He is yet to become as well known as we will later see him, But as we saw a few weeks ago, he has begun to show signs and wonders, through miracles and healing. Jesus, at this moment, is in Jerusalem at the Passover festival.

Passover is generally a week-long Jewish festival marking a moment in history when God took favour on the people of Israel and “Passed Over” them with the last of the plagues in the Exodus story. The Exodus story describes the time when God freed Israel from slavery to the Egyptians.

Continuing with the background – Jesus is in Jerusalem at the Passover festival. The Bible says that he is being recognized and trusted by people who had seen him perform miracles. It then goes on to say that he will not entrust himself to these people, “for he knew what was in man.”

Jesus is saying that he is the way to have eternal life. He is the one, sent by God to save us from ourselves, our faults and our brokenness. Living in the truth means to be choosing Jesus, who is the way, the truth and the light!

Application

What we learn in this story is exciting! It’s impossible to understand that type of love fully. That God loved us so much, he gave his Son to us so we could have eternal life! We get to choose to have a relationship with Him! And we get to share that joy, love, and hope with others!

A good take away from our story today is the more we want to know God and the more we grow in our relationship with Him, the more we want to share his love! When we choose God, a relationship with Him. We are reborn. Not physically, but we are reborn in the Spirit! We then have eternal life with God.

God still sent his son for me, for my sins, and I get to choose to be “reborn” in Him.
