About the Story
What do we need to know about this story?
Well, Jesus is starting to become more popular. His 12 disciples are learning a ton and have begun to preach and teach. Things were going reasonably well at this point, except for his recent experience in Nazareth, his hometown.
That’s when Jesus took his disciples there. The people scoffed at him and said he is just a carpenter even though he did some miracles. We know his family. The people were offended by Jesus, and they refused to believe in him.
It didn’t go well at all. His hometown did not accept him, as so many other places did! So that brings us to our story for today.
It’s impossible to do ministry solo since relationships are the foundation of ministry.

What did they have?
I think you are asking the perfect question? I think we often wait around for a long time, waiting for the right things to be in place before we start ministering and serving others. We don’t need anything to begin ministering. You and I can start right now with the clothes and shoes we have on. We don’t need anything more than that!
Ok, it might be the perfect question, but you didn’t answer the question. Don’t worry; I got you. The answer to the question, “What did they have?” are people.
Right, Jesus sent them out in pairs.
Not only that, the people in various towns welcomed them and showed them hospitality.
And, they had the people they were preaching to and healing.
They did not have much, but they did have people!
I thought of something else. They had God. How else would they have been able to do miracles and such?
Yeah, God sends every believer with others. Jesus never intended us to serve by ourselves. In fact, it’s impossible to do ministry solo since relationships are the foundation of ministry. Relationship with God and with others!
That is such a great lesson we are sent together!
