About the Story
Absolutely! Today we will be jumping into Micah 5, the old testament; we will be looking at another Prophecy about Jesus, or prediction of His life!
A little context for the listeners today! Micah was a prophet or an individual who spoke on behalf of God and gave predictions or warnings about the future. In the first few chapters of Micah, we see there have been predictions of massive Judgement by God against several rebellious nations of Israel. Much of which was because of corrupt and dishonest leaders.
A lot of Micah’s prophecy had to do with the rescue of those who were living within the corrupt nations – How God would restore those people.
Precisely, the prophecies include an undoing and destruction of the current Jerusalem. Micah continues and recognizes that God will restore Jerusalem.
We see these prophecies written in poetry in Micah 5. Which I’ll be honest. I am not always the best at grasping the first few times through. I had to read and sit on this section for a while to begin to understand some of the contexts!
That’s an excellent point, Bradon. The bible has several different ways of telling stories – poetry is just one of those! So through the poetry of Micah, today, we will be learning that Jesus Brings Peace.

Our lesson for today – Jesus Brings Peace. Specifically, we see it in restoration, through how his birth sets in motion the actions that bring the nation of Israel back to worship Him!
I think we see here that Jesus brings peace because of how we interact with Him. The destruction of the cities was caused because of greed and the people’s desire to idolize money and themselves. When Jesus restores Jerusalem, and we see the people worshiping Him, there is peace. He shepherds them and protects them. He is today our shepherd and our peace.
It certainly brings me peace thinking about Jesus guiding me, allowing me to worship Him while he protects me!
I love the imagery that Micah uses here. Jesus as a shepherd. Growing up, my best friend lived on a sheep farm. Sheep are two things, not that smart and easily scared. When they are scared, they begin to hurt themselves within their panic. They jump into gates, fences or trample smaller ones. The shepherd wants a peaceful, safe place for his sheep. The healthiest herd of sheep is one that is at peace, unafraid of their surroundings.
There is something so powerful when we can turn our lives from fearfully panicking and maybe even unintentionally hurting ourselves – to submitting to the caring goodness of God. We glorify Him when we allow Him to lead us! On top of that, he brings us peace when we follow his lead as our shepherd!
It is amazing that simply by allowing God to lead us, we can be glorifying Him. It seems like such a simple gift to give to Him, and such an incredible gift he gives to us, peace!
