Believe in God’s Son

Bradon: Hey Jon, have you ever had a Mic drop moment!

Jon: I don’t know. By accident, but then there was a bunch of feedback, and the sound guy wasn’t impressed at all!

Bradon: No – I will explain a mic drop moment later. Coming up on the Bible Story Podcast is a real deal mic drop moment! It’s great!

Discussion Episode

John 3:22-36

About the Story

Jon: We are continuing with the story of Jesus as written and told by John, one of Jesus’ disciples.

Bradon: Last week, we heard Jesus discussing at length the idea of being born of the spirit – a spiritual rebirth. Interestingly, he was speaking with a religious leader Nicodemus who is genuinely wanting to learn from Jesus!

Jon: It was a fascinating story that proves not all religious leaders had hearts of stone and were against Jesus!

Bradon: Today, we will check in with John the Baptist and see what more he has to say about Jesus! John emphasized emphatically that his disciples ought to believe in God’s Son – Jesus, the messiah!

Application

Bradon: Our lesson for today is this. Those who believe in God’s Son have eternal life!

Jon: This is a foundational concept within the Christian faith, and we are going to dive into this a bit more in today’s discussion episode.

Bradon: John the Baptist connects two concepts, belief in Jesus and obedience to Jesus. John assumes that the two ideas go hand in hand – if you believe that Jesus is God’s son, then the natural thing to do is to obey his teachings.

Jon: John assumed these ideas were connected because of the Jewish cultural and religious understanding of their society. For most of our listeners, connecting the concepts of belief and obeying isn’t a given like it was back then.

Bradon: So we will explore the idea of what does it mean to believe in Jesus back then and for Jon and me personally during our discussion episode.

Jon: The key lesson is this, believe in God’s Son – Jesus. It is foundational to your faith, growing in a relationship with Jesus and eternal life.

Bradon: I get so excited about this topic, and I can’t wait for the discussion episode to dive in a bit deeper. It’s my favourite part of the episode!
