About the Story
Jon: Yeah, the lesson is this, in the midst of persecution, the story of Jesus spreads faster! Today’s story is found in Acts Chapter 6:8 to 8:3
Bradon: We have been going through the first part of Acts. Things were going very well. The apostles were healing and teaching about Jesus. Even though they experienced some scary moments, threats and even were whipped or flogged, they kept on healing and teaching.
Jon: One significant thing was the amount of time the believers spent in prayer. Along with that, we learned about the Holy Spirit coming to the believers.
Bradon: The number of new believers grew every day, and some who were not apostles were also healing, performing miracles and speaking boldly about Jesus, claiming that he is the Messiah!
Jon: The entire city of Jerusalem was abuzz with all that was happening. Generally speaking, the people held the Apostles in high regard, so the religious leaders didn’t kill any of them. They didn’t want to start a riot!
Application
Bradon: The early church was about to be launched, and this Saul guy, well, he would later be known as Paul and would end up writing much of the New Testament!
Jon: At that moment, everything was falling apart, or so it seemed. Yet God was going to use this for Good and his purpose!
Bradon: The believers didn’t know what was happening, but we have the whole story. As a result of Stephen’s death and the persecution of the believers. The Story of Jesus Spread Faster than ever before. Believers were going all over, and when they got there they told the story of Jesus.
Jon: As a result, the early church began to take root all over. How God was using the death of Stephen and the persecution of believers was incredible. God was doing so much good, and the story about Jesus was spreading faster than ever before.
