Wait In God

Coming up on the podcast, we will explore a wedding, the miracle that took place during that celebration and our need to wait in God.

Discussion Episode

John 2:1-12

About the Story

Bradon: Okay, so we are going to continue talking about a wedding today. It is not my wedding, however. In our continuation in the book of John takes us to a wedding, or takes Jesus, His mother, and disciples to a wedding.

Jon: There was celebrating, fun, wine, all the things a wedding had during those times.

Bradon: I should be taking notes; this is all good stuff!

Jon: Okay, to set the stage a little, let’s get some understanding of the time we see Jesus in here.

Bradon: good thought. So, in our last episode, we see Jesus gathering some of His disciples, calling them to serve alongside Him and travel with Him under His teachings.

Jon: A really big call for these individuals. Ones like Matthew, Thomas, Peter, and John.

Bradon: Right, the twelve disciples were the ones who Jesus would have called and travelled with.

Application

Jon: It does. There is no war or fighting: just a wedding and some empty wine jars.

Bradon: Exactly. But here is what I think our takeaway should be from this story today: we need to “wait in God,” Not wait for God, although that sometimes is relevant.

But wait in God as we see Jesus do here. He is so confident in His heavenly purpose that he knows that God’s timing is perfect.

Jon: to wait in God is awesome. God is with you and all around you. You are not waiting to meet Him or experience Him; he is already there. But waiting in Him allows us to know when we need to act, when we need to hold still and how we can best be used to serve.

Bradon: Exactly; although relatively tame compared to many other miracles, it is the first time Jesus performed a miracle in public. This goes on to be a definitive moment at the beginning of Jesus’ 3 years of ministry. When his time did come, he taught and travelled and shared the love of God with many lost people!

But Jesus knew that process couldn’t be rushed. He knew he had to wait in God because God had worked out the timing already.
