Look to God with Expectation
Jon: Hey Bradon do you have a crazy big prayer? A prayer that you could maybe describe as dangerous?
Bradon: Yeah, I have one that has made me uncomfortable and makes me fearful – but in a good way!
Jon: Today we are going to learn about a Dangerous Prayer!
Discussion Episode
Acts 4:1-22
About the Story
Bradon: Last week we told the story about how Peter and John healed a man who was lame!
Jon: Hey now, just because the guy can’t walk doesn’t mean you should insult him. He might be disabled, but he isn’t lame. He was probably way cooler than us!
Bradon: I can’t believe you. Lame as in crippled, unable to walk. Not lame as in uncool or nerdy!
Jon: Oh right, my bad!
Bradon: There are so many times I wish people could see how exhausting I get due to my co-host.
Jon: I am just allowing you to work on your patience – you are welcome!
Bradon: Carrying on. Peter saw that everyone was amazed and a crowd was gathering, so he took the opportunity to preach, and we learned from the “lame” or crippled man that we can look to God with Expectation.
Jon: Today, we are going to continue with this story because it doesn’t end there! But before you do. Bradon what is your dangerous prayer?
Bradon: My dangerous prayer would have to be that I am able to let God lead me in my life. If that means move I move, if that means change Jobs I do that. I pray that God guides me and helps me discern these things… The unknown of all of this can be VERY scary!
Jon: That is a scary Prayer thanks.
Application
Jon: Ok, so we have to ask what is God wanting us to learn. I think I have an idea but could use your help. So in this story, twice, the Holy Spirit comes and fills people, and then they speak boldly about Christ!
Bradon: The first time was when Peter and John were before the religious leaders and the second time was after they were released and the believers met in prayer. I think you are onto something here.
Jon: So I think our application is a prayer, and it’s kind of crazy to imagine what kind of things may come about if we prayed this prayer!
Bradon: You are talking about the prayer the believers prayed after the release of Peter and John?
Jon: Yeah, but specifically a short section within it the last part. Give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. 30Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.
Bradon: Oh, I like that. Our world needs Jesus’ healing power. It needs people to share the story of Jesus boldly! Oh, things could get a little crazy after a prayer like this! I really like it!
Jon: It’s a dangerous prayer because it puts the people praying it in a position of risk. Anyone who prays this prayer needs Jesus to show up with his power!
