A New Thing

A new thing out of the old and broken is what God does. He heals the broken, forgives the sinner and helps each of us live in a growing relationship with himself.

Key Point

About the Story

The beginning of a new year is exciting. It allows us a natural time and space to think over the previous year and plan for the coming year.

Totally! I like to do this a few times a year, and truthfully I usually do not wait until the “new year” to implement change or growth; if I think of something, I tend to jump into it! But I like the tradition of it and the ability to reflect and learn from past experiences!

The lesson, a new thing. You can find it in Isaiah 43: 19. Now, this may not sound like a specific lesson, but give us a moment! We will get there.

First, let’s recap some of the scripture here. In Isaiah 43, we continue to read the prophecy about the messiah’s coming – Jesus. In chapter 43, Isaiah begins to speak about the coming messiah as saviour. As the one to restore Israel to glory. Israel has been through horrible difficulties from being slaves in Egypt, wandering the desert, and now having their nation uprooted and exiled to different countries. This prophecy speaks of the newness that comes after the birth of the Messiah – Jesus.

I am a selfish and broken person, as we all are, but we are redeemed through God. We are given New Life! A completely New Thing!

Application

God knows where we need renewal, where we need healing and redemption. This is the fulfillment of the prophecy. God sent Jesus to earth for this very reason. The perfect and final sacrifice. To redeem us from Sin. To heal our brokenness and give us a new life with Him in eternity available to everyone!

What an amazing gift. I can’t even imagine giving up one of my children as God did with Jesus. But this is what makes this sacrifice so amazing. We see Jesus struggle with this in the new testament. He prays with anguish before his death about him being the sacrifice for all of humanity.

The gift is freely given. Meaning it does not cost us anything to receive it! But it was not easily given! Jesus, born of a virgin, born in Bethlehem, born the Son of man, the light of the world and the saviour of humanity, Died for our sins – past, present, and future so we could live in relationship with Him!

I completely agree! The more real this sacrifice becomes to me, the more I am in awe of God! His grace and the life that he has offered me is astounding!

Just like everyone else, I am a selfish and broken person, but God has redeemed us. He gives us New Life! A completely New Thing!
