Come and See For Yourself

Bradon: Have you ever had to see something for yourself because it was just too good, too unbelievably exciting!

Jon: Coming up on the Bible Story Podcast, we see people being invited to meet Jesus – to come and see for themselves.

Discussion Episode

John 1:35-51

About the Story

Jon:  Last week, we heard a lot from John the Baptist. He said some pretty incredible things about Jesus. Now John was baptizing people in the Jordan River, which starts further north in the mountains!

Bradon: AHHH, we are listening to the Jordan River! John the baptist made some of the most significant claims about Jesus ever around the Jordan River. He said he was the Son of God, the Lamb of God, the chosen one, and the Messiah. These claims would have rocked the whole Jewish religious community. John was in many ways stirring the pot!

Jon: This would have disrupted every religious person. I mean, John even named Jesus as the one he was talking about when he made all those claims!

Bradon: So, based on the sounds I am still hearing. I guess that John the Baptist is still center stage in our story, and he is still by the Jordan River.

Jon: You got it. But Jesus is still the main character of this story, as we will see today. One more thing. I have no idea if this is the Jordan River or but if I fooled you, then well, I am sure I fooled everyone else too!

Bradon: Alright, let’s get into our story for today.

Application

Bradon: So, who do you relate to in this story? Which character do you see yourself in?

Jon: Maybe it’s Phillip or Andrew how they so enthusiastically invite their friend and brother to meet Jesus?

Bradon: Or, maybe you relate more to Peter and Nathaniel, who will check things out for themselves.

Jon: Regardless of who you relate to, the statement, “Come and see for yourself,” applies. You can invite others to discover Jesus, or you can begin to investigate to see if the claims others make about Jesus are true.

Bradon: Like Nathaniel, most people will have doubts, and that is why extending or accepting the invitation to come and see for yourself or ourselves is so important. We all need to discover more about Jesus and decide if everything that is said about him is true!
