Discussion | Purpose Pushes Through

Bradon: you are here listening to the discussion questions for the episode “Purpose Pushes Through.”

Jon: In today’s story, the disciples struggling with the betrayal of Judas and caring about the mission after the fact. They knew their calling and purpose, given to them by Jesus, and therefore knew that pushing through was necessary.

Story Episode
Acts 1:12-26

Questions

  1. Bradon: What is one setback you may be facing within your life today?
  2. Jon: What excites you about speaking or talking about your faith?
  3. Bradon: How can we all contribute to the mission to share Jesus’ story?

Growth Tip

Bradon: Oh I am always ready for this part! Today our topic comes from a camper asking about Purpose, the question is “How do we know our purpose?”

Jon: That is a really good question. And again we can only touch on these topics with the time we have but will hopefully revisit them in future episodes. Well, let’s learn from our scripture today. The disciples were called by Jesus to follow Him, which all of us receive that same calling and have the opportunity to respond to. They then were told specifically that they were to share His story with all the people, which is another Purpose or mission we have, as Christians, collectively been given. read Matthew 28

Bradon: And correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding when looking at specific, individual calling is that some people will know VERY clearly what they are to do. A specific Job, or journey, or call to preach or teach. And others, more likely the majority, will use the skills and gifts God has given us to continue to serve and honor Him.

We could be doing something with zero relation to the church, but if we are doing it in a God-honoring way, with the intent to teach people about Him and Glorify Him, then we are fulfilling our purpose.

Jon: I totally agree. We don’t need to make it feel like if we aren’t going on big trips or preaching at church that we are any less “purposeful” than the next.

Bradon: Awesome, okay quick growth tip for today, to end on after that question, Practice Joy this week. How can you, share Joy with the people around you.

Jon: Sounds like an awesome tip! Being intentionally joyful can be a really powerful thing! Have fun with it!

Prayer Requests

At the end of your discussion, go around the group and ask for prayer requests.
