Discussion | The Gift of the Holy Spirit

Jon: You are listening to the discussion episode for the story found in Acts Chapter 2, which we titled the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Bradon: The disciples were praying in the morning when a loud noise like a windstorm came. Then what looked like floating flames rested on them, and they were filled with the Holy Spirit. They began speaking in different languages. Peter then spoke to the crowd gathered, and more than 3000 put their faith in Jesus and became Christians.

Questions

  1. The Holy Spirit is kind of mysterious. What is one question you are curious about?
  2. We would love to hear your questions, so share them with us. What are some abilities the Holy Spirit has given followers of Jesus?
  3. Now that you know that the Holy Spirit prays with you, will help you pray, and will pray for you, have your feelings about praying changed? If so, how?

Growth Tip

Jon: The growth tip is a way for us all to grow in a relationship with Jesus.

Bradon: So, we have all been in a situation where we need God’s help!

Jon: Here is the tip; the Holy Spirit is helping you pray. It sounds crazy, but it is true. Sometimes we don’t know what to say to God in prayer. Sometimes we are just overwhelmed with hurt or are just really confused. Bradon, read Romans 8:26-28.

Bradon: ‘And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.’

Jon: So our tip isn’t much of an action but is something for you to keep in mind. The Holy Spirit makes sure your prayers get to God even when you don’t know what to say!

Bradon: So next time you are praying. Know that the Holy Spirit is praying with you and for you!

Prayer Requests

At the end of your discussion, go around the group and ask for prayer requests.
