Jon: You are going to learn what our favourite childhood toys were!
Bradon: It’s going to be awesome!
Jon: You will not want to miss it!
Jon: You listened to the story Obey God for Your Good, and this is the discussion episode.
Bradon: We saw Nehemiah’s heartbreak when he heard the report about Israel. He prayed and fasted, asking God to help. Later he spoke with the King and asked for his help which he received. He went to Jerusalem and found a few outraged officials because he had come to help the people rebuild the walls and gates.
Bradon: I hereby banish you, Jon Drebert, to the forests of Pigeon Lake Provincial Park!
Jon: What! Can I come back before winter?
Bradon: Nope
Jon: That sounds miserable.
Bradon: Coming up on the Bible Story Podcast, you will learn to obey God for your good.
Jon: This is the discussion episode for the story Choose Today.
Bradon: Elijah called all of Israel to choose between The Lord and Baal. He challenged the prophets of Baal to a showdown! Whichever God answered with fire on an alter would be considered the true God. Baal never responded even though the prophets prayed all day. Elijah prayed, and immediately the Lord God answered with fire burning up the wood, the bull, the stones, the dust. The fire licked up all the water poured on the altar and lay in the trench around the altar. It was a decisive victory for the Lord, and all the people proclaimed that the Lord was indeed the true God!
Jon: Imagine if you are in a challenge to the death.
Bradon: Oh, like an old western movie where the two guys have a gun duel.
Jon: No, more like a prayer duel to the death!
Bradon: That sounds crazy.
Jon: That is exactly what happened in the upcoming story! Stay tuned!
Jon: Would you rather die with honor in war or survive the battlefield but compromise your values?
Bradon: What, that’s a crazy hard “would you rather” question.
Jon: Today, we will learn the importance of living with honor.
Jon: You are listening to the discussion episode for the story Live a Life of Honour.
Bradon: After living a life disobedient to God’s direction, Saul finds himself on the battlefield with his Sons. Much of the Israelite army had fled, abandoning Saul. And Saul was alone without God’s help because he refused to obey God throughout his life. During the fight, Saul and his three sons die. It was sad and quite gruesome.
Bradon: Our next episode, we will be talking about
Jon: Hey, don’t be so selfish; I wanted to do the intro today
Bradon: Exactly! We will be talking about being selfish
Bradon: You are listening to the discussion questions for the episode “do not be selfish in what the Lord has given you”
Jon: David and his men had everything taken from them – all of their belongings and their families were captured. He and his men set out to retrieve these things. They demolished the Amalekites and brought home their belongings and families, although when David suggested they share the victory and plunder with some of the men that had stayed behind due to exhaustion, some of the evil-spirited men got very angry! David encouraged the men that the Lord was the one who provided these things and it was necessary to share them amongst all those who helped.
Jon: We have got a crazy story for you today.
Bradon: Samuel is dead but somehow still speaks to Saul. David is bold and has moved into his enemy’s land. The story teaches us a vital lesson on Friendship.
Jon: We have to choose our friends wisely.
